Tragic Flooding in Brazil: DMD Emergency Program activated

From the start of May, Brazil is experiencing an environmental and humanitarian tragedy due to the floods. Nearly 1.5 million people are affected and many are Duchenne families who lost their home, some are isolated. The World Duchenne Organization has activated the DMD Emergency Program for the floods in Brazil.

Karina Zuge, Chair of the organization Aliança Distrofia Brasil (ADB) is coordinating the action locally.

“The situation is very complicated. As ADB we are in contact with the Duchenne and Becker families to support them. We are actually collecting needs like providing devices. Secondly, we are already setting programs to rebuild what is damaged and multidisciplinary medical checks for all the families affected by this tragedy”

Since the first days the Brazilian organization is in contact with the World Duchenne Organization.

“This is a huge disaster”, comments Nicoletta Madia, coordinator of the DMD Emergency Program. “We are monitoring the situation providing the help needed and economical support. We want to stay close to our Brazilian Duchenne Community because help has no borders. This is why we are now collecting donations to support the community”
