The Guidelines for the Clinical Management of Becker Muscular Dystrophy (BMD) were shared on September 14 at TREAT-NMD’s Becker Education and Engagement Day. This is the first guide made specifically for BMD patients and their families.
BMD is different from Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) and needs a special care plan. These guidelines give clear advice to improve life quality and guide patients and families as new treatments are developed.
Initiated in 2021 by Parent Project aps, the guidelines were developed with contributions from a broad team of specialists in BMD care. The project was led by Prof. Elena Pegoraro from the University of Padua’s Department of Neuroscience. The document explains medical care, emotional support, and social needs for people with BMD.
Originally in Italian, the guide has been translated into English, Dutch, French, German, Italian and Spanish to help more people.
