The strength of the fragile people: Duchenne and Becker MD in Ukraine during the war
The strength of the “fragile people”. People with Duchenne and Becker muscular dystrophy in Ukraine during the war.
“The war has broken out.” This is the message that reached all of us, including the World Duchenne Organization, from the families of children and young people with Duchenne and Becker muscular dystrophy in Ukraine.
War brings fear just by naming it. So devastating and painful, even more for children and young people who live with such complex pathologies that generate high difficulties and require the use of aids.
In cities particularly affected by the war they live underground, in what are considered safe places. The hours pass fearful in a time that seems frozen. Cold like the cold outside, like the cold that war brings. Childhood blocked and marked.

Little ones who become big in a moment, who take responsibility, who endure the difficulties of the tragic situation they are experiencing together with the fatigue of the pathology they live with.
Stories and faces that come to us through smartphones, through the stories of fearful families, afraid of war and the physical condition of children and young people.
The fragility of children and young people with Duchenne and Becker muscular dystrophy lies in the delicacy and attention with which they must be treated, but it is not in their soul. Strong and courageous souls as they are demonstrating in silence even in this painful historical period.
The World Duchenne Organization has activated the Emergency program for the victims of the Ukrainian conflict by cooperating internationally with humanitarian aid.
