BharathMD Foundation (India) joins World Duchenne Organization

BharathMD Foundation, a newly founded parent advocacy organization, has recently become a member of the World Duchenne Organization (WDO). Comprising of four mothers of children diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD), BharathMD Foundation aims to spread awareness about DMD and provide support services to DMD warriors and their families in India.

The organization was formed in February 2022 and is registered as a Non-Government Company under the Registrar of Companies in India. The directors of BharathMD Foundation hail from different parts of the country and are supported by parents from various professions, including doctors, scientists, lawyers, software professionals, businessmen, teachers, and daily wage workers, among others.

The main goal of BharathMD Foundation is to bring all groups, associations, and stakeholders of Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy under one umbrella to carry on their activities and improve the standard of life for those affected by DMD. The organization focuses on prevention through genetic diagnosis and counseling, management, and cure. They organize various events to address the challenges faced by the muscular dystrophy community and provide supportive services to families and children diagnosed with DMD.

Later, we participated in WDO webinars and annual programs organized by WDO. We became inspired by the global reach and impact of WDO and became eager to connect and collaborate with other like-minded organizations worldwide to support families in India and improve quality of life.”

As a member of WDO, BharathMD Foundation aims to navigate the DMD journey in the most effective manner for the benefit of the DMD community. They are excited about the opportunity to collaborate with WDO and other member organizations to create awareness, advocate for better policies, and provide support services to families affected by DMD in India and beyond.
